One of the advantages of chartering a yacht in the Grenadines is that the islands are close enough together to explore several destinations within a relatively short trip.

Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, the Tobago Cays and Union Island can all fit into a well-planned itinerary, with many typical sailing legs covering around 10 to 20 nautical miles. That makes the Grenadines particularly suitable for a traditional one-week charter.

But five, seven and ten days create very different holidays.

A 5-day Grenadines yacht charter gives you a focused introduction to the islands.

A 7-day charter is the sweet spot for most first-time visitors.

A 10-day charter gives you enough time to slow down, spend multiple nights in your favorite places and potentially extend the itinerary toward Carriacou and Grenada.

Five days is enough to experience the Grenadines, but you need to be selective.

Trying to visit every major island would defeat the purpose. You would spend too much of the charter moving and not enough time swimming, snorkeling, exploring ashore or simply enjoying the yacht.

A better approach is to concentrate on the highlights.

Alternatively, a one-way charter can continue south toward Petit St Vincent, Carriacou or Grenada rather than returning to the original embarkation point.

Seven-day Grenadines itineraries commonly combine Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau and the Tobago Cays, with individual sailing legs generally remaining manageable. One current St Vincent-to-Grenada example covers approximately 62 nautical miles across the week, while circular itineraries can cover considerably more depending on the starting point and route.

The difference compared with five days is flexibility.

You can spend the morning exploring Bequia rather than leaving immediately after breakfast. You can stay long enough on Mustique to visit the beaches and enjoy an evening ashore. Most importantly, you can dedicate meaningful time to the Tobago Cays instead of arriving, snorkeling for an hour and moving on.

You also have more room to adjust around weather and guest preferences.

If everyone loves Tobago Cays, stay longer.

If Mustique is not your style, leave earlier and add another night somewhere quieter.

That flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of chartering privately in the first place.

Best for: First-time visitors, families, couples and almost anyone wanting the classic Grenadines experience.

Ten days changes the character of the charter.

Instead of asking, "How many islands can we visit?", you can start asking, "Where would we like to stay another day?"

That makes a major difference in the Grenadines.

You could spend two nights around Bequia, dedicate more time to Mustique, enjoy an entire day inside Tobago Cays and still continue south through Union Island and Petit St Vincent without feeling pressured by the calendar.

Current 10-day Grenadines itinerary guidance specifically highlights the ability to include multi-night stays and extend farther south toward Carriacou or Grenada while maintaining a more relaxed pace.

A one-way route might look like:

That itinerary begins to feel less like a standard yacht charter week and more like a proper journey through the southern Caribbean.

Ten days also works particularly well for sailing yachts and catamarans because there is less incentive to use the engine simply to maintain the schedule. If the trade winds are good, you can sail. If you discover an exceptional anchorage, you can remain there.

And if your yacht is starting farther north in St Lucia, I would strongly prefer ten days over seven. The additional time makes it much easier to include St Lucia and St Vincent before reaching the core Grenadines cruising ground without sacrificing the islands you actually came to see.
